HUMAN NATURE

I know that fundamentally, deep down, I am a good person.

And by good I mean someone who doesnapos;t mean harm for anybody else, who just wants to be happy and help other people, learn from other people, and just bumble through life like everybody else.

Therefore I assume the same for other people.

But there can be layers of bad and hate and lies covering the fundamentally good part up.

I generalize about people. I do. I admit that. Itapos;s easy. Itapos;s what Iapos;m naturally programmed to do, too, or so the scientists and biologists say.

ASSUMPTIONS

When I see a bunch of kids on the street wearing pimped out fur-lined puffy coats and trousers down to their asses, I make assumptions. When I notice them tramping around in the streets at night, being loud and obnoxious, I make assumptions. When I see them wearing big tacky jewelry and lipstick thatapos;s too shiny, clothes with brand labels on them and so-called "urban" styles, or any sort of stupid style like popped collars and all that shit, I make assumptions. And yes, when I see that on top of all this, they are black or something else, I make assumptions. I assume that if they were to meet someone like me, they would make assumptions, too.

White girl. Honky. Someone who looks like a Nazi. Whitey.

I wouldnapos;t blame them, either. So many complicated things are attached to physical appearance. Covetousness and vanity...for our beauty, if we possess it. Pride...for our race, if we feel we must defend it. Shame from our scars, our tattoos, our wrinkles, any sign of having a past.

Imagine all the horrible things we could forget about if we had the ability to ignore our bodies, and each othersapos; bodies.

Imagine a world without assumptions
